Seven years is a long time for any person to observe the cataclysmic changes his surroundings have been subjected to. Especially, if one is living in a burgeoning city like Gurugram, where progress is generally measured by the skyscrapers the city has managed to build and a handsome bank balance is a vital parameter to evaluate a person’s success. These concerns have always been pivotal to Jagannath Panda’s oeuvre and time and time again he has commented on the mindless transformation of the cities and its repercussions on the denizens. This time too, the artist has centred his works on the “tensions of urbanised environments” in his solo show, “Crystal Cities”, but with some elements of mystery. These mysteries unfold themselves in darker hues and as Jagannath points out, “this darker shade is employed to create a question among viewers and let them contemplate and interpret the works as they want.”
