The perpetuity of life is an intrinsically tied succession of events; one unfolding after another, each submerged into the other in a tightly knit series, never a gap or a pause; a break would spell death. Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, the celebrated painter, writer and art historian from Saurashtra, Gujarat experimented with a recreation of sequences inside the borders of a single canvass.
A painting normally reflects one theme, but in some of the intriguing art of Sheikh Sahib, as he is mostly called, one picture depicts more than one moment, or rather an event and its outcome.
