"Seeing Ambadas' recent works, my mind rolls back to over twenty years ago when for the first time I had stood facing his paintings. It was a baffling encounter for many a painful moment. I was trying hard to discover something failiar that i presumed, and naively suspected, lay camouflaged in the densely coated surfaces. The genre seemed familiar, and contemporary. names and images began floating — Tobey, Pollock, Klee and others. But beyod the generic resemblance there was a difference, an originality. Bound to a variety of contemporary preconceptions and preoccupations I tried to ferret it out, looking for a hint here, a sign there that would betray the idea, reveal the hidden emssage. In vain. Behind the paintings I could sense the presence of a sensitive mind, a pair of exceptionally sure, accomplished hands. That only added to the agony."
