The work is a reconvening of embodied memory and gendered selves, formulated as an ongoing meditation on routine and prolongings. Occupying the space of multiple characters within certain histories and performativities of gender in the context of folk theatre, the artist will develop embodiments that unravel, transform and tilt, allowing for an intimate fostering of dialogues and conversations. The opening performance is positioned—among multiple forms of expression—as an initiation towards eventual enmeshments, a starting point for further witnessings.
A Goa-based artist, Bhisaji Gadekar’s experiments with articulations on and around gender and its performativity, building an energetic, inventive vocabulary around performance and the body, highlighting a persistent and critical exploration of publics and spaces. With a background in sculpture and an art practice that maintains a strong footing in Goa, functioning in collaboration with local artists and communities, his work extends commentaries on craftsmanship, artisanal livelihoods and cultural traditions, positions itself at the intersection of durational play, participatory experience, and extensive research.
