In a world now as perfunctory as ours, fraught with disconnection and technological disruptions, the very idea of being “in touch” – whether with others or simply ourselves – is undergoing gradual and consistent cultural shifts across geographies and generations. The zeitgeist, when viewed from a broad spectrum, appears to tolerate the decline of affective and contemplative intensity with which interactions and intimacy were once cultivated. As experiences of isolation, loneliness and dissociation grow out of capitalistic, urban environments, a parallel counter-surge in seeking enlightenment and belonging emerges as a field of sensory transgression. In this curation, we present a collection of artworks that explore intellectual and visual notions of “touch” through varying definitions of tactility and influence, from which a symphony of ideas and issues around mobility, intimacy, selfreflection, communication, environmental impact, control and accessibility arise.
