With a diverse roster of artists across conditioning, intention, practice and cultural attitudes – including A. Ramachandran, Anita Dube, Anju Dodiya, Atul Dodiya, Balkrishna Doshi, Biraaj Dodiya, Gauri Gill, Gulammohammed Sheikh, Praneet Soi, Rameshwar Broota, Shailesh B.R., Shilpa Gupta, Sudhir Patwardhan, Tyeb Mehta, Sachin George Sebastian and Zaam Arif – our presentation seeks to engage with the energetic pulse and vigorous authenticity steering contemporary cultural imaginations in the Subcontinent and beyond.
Our presentation features a rare, large-scale painting by the iconic modernist Tyeb Mehta from 1999, on public view for the first time in more than two decades. We will also be displaying compelling artworks by leading contemporary artists, including: cabinet-of-curiosity-like installations by Atul Dodiya, which were previously exhibited at the Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai; a curated suite of photographs by the Prix Pictet award-winning Gauri Gill from her ongoing series titled Acts of Appearance, shot in rural India; a striking canvas by Sudhir Patwardhan pursuing the geometric correspondences that emerge into view from haphazard and synthetic infrastructural development in cities; Shilpa Gupta’s return to the hierarchies of knowledge and perspectival conditioning in a series of paper works featuring text culled from her famed flapboard series WeAreCloserThanYouEverImagined; and Balkrishna Doshi’s surrealistic mixed media on canvas work that abstractedly evokes the preoccupations of old age – among other noteworthy artworks.
