Art Basel Hong Kong 2020

Online, 18 - 25 March 2020

We're proud to present a collection of work by leading Indian contemporary artists, including Atul Dodiya, Anju Dodiya, Shilpa Gupta, Jagannath Panda and Ranbir Kaleka. This year’s curation hinges on the archetypal visual language our artists are internationally recognized for as they explore the psychology and physicality of territory and boundaries. Through both figurative and abstract compositions, the keenness of these artists’ contemplations catapults the works into a fluid threshold as they become representational of both reality and the imagination: Atul Dodiya’s oil on canvas is emblematic of the female muse while his iconic shutter is intent on the paradox of reveal; Anju Dodiya’s large-scale work on fabric draws us inward to the theatre of emotions; Shilpa Gupta’s Half-a-Sky series speaks of the boundaries of self-definition that are at once singular and plural while her light-box challenges the arrogance of perception; Jagannath Panda’s avian protagonist evokes concern about the relationship between the man-made and natural world; and Ranbir Kaleka’s digital collage invites repeated viewing of fantastical universes in which animal spirits have evolved beyond their human counterparts.
